Marketing students in the East of England are getting ready to prove their business nous as they take on an ‘apprentice-style’ challenge with The Chartered Institute of Marketing for the chance to win a placement at leading Cambridge-based integrated marketing agency, Professional Diploma in Marketing

The competition is aimed at marketing students across the East of England, including CIM members studying for the Professional Diploma in Marketing and the Chartered Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing. Teams of students will be briefed using a real-life business scenario to develop a marketing solution, which will then be pitched to the judging panel. Teams must use their marketing savvy to draw upon any resources they can think of as they compete to deliver the brief, provided by Bernard Matthews. Contestants must use creative flair, strategic thinking and financial expertise, putting their skills to the test. Marketing students have the opportunity to prove their worth in a real business context, showcasing their skills to some of the industry’s biggest players.

The deadline for entries is 4 March and the event will take place from 2pm on 5 April 2011 at the AirSpace Conference Centre, Imperial War Museum, Duxford; students will receive the brief two weeks in advance of the event.

Philip Preston, CIM’s regional director for the East of England said: “The Pitch East promises to be an exciting and fiercely fought competition. If you’re serious about a career in marketing then you seriously need to take part in this unique opportunity. Presentation skills and the ability to work in a team, develop marketing strategy and handle budgets will be required for you to enter The Pitch. This could be the showcase of your life.”

Winners of The Pitch East will be rewarded with CIM membership for a year, the CIM Shield for a year and a CV health check from recruitment specialist and co-sponsor Cooper Lomaz. They will also receive a week’s intensive work experience with sponsor and leading Cambridge-based marketing agency, Ware Anthony Rust.
