Super-size PR crisis: Safe to say no one at McDonald’s was “lovin’ it” last weekend

Seriously, McDonald’s?
That was the Twitter trending topic that the fast-food giant’s PR department dealt with last weekend as countless number of people tweeted this image.

The posted notice in the picture is a fake, but that didn’t stop it from going viral.
In response to the tweets, McDonald’s sent several of its own in hopes of clearing up the mess. The first tweet from the company’s official Twitter feed said:
“That pic is a senseless & ignorant hoax McD’s values ALL our customers. Diversity runs deep in our culture on both sides of the counter.”

The pic fell from the trending topic list by Sunday, thanks to numerous tweets clarifying that it’s fake (and that the 1-800 number is actually a KFC line).
Safe to say no one at McDonald’s was “lovin’ it” last weekend, but it does show how a quick, comprehensive response can douse an inflammatory prank.
