"It looks like a good day at the office for NeoMedia"

Neomedia has granted a five year, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable license to eBay, which gives the online auction firm and retailer worldwide rights to use a number of NeoMedia patents relating to the firm’s barcode technologies, in return for a licence fee for the initial term.
Details of the agreement are contained in a 21 December 8-K filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.
The agreement also grants eBay a 60-day option of a similar licence to a number of patents relating to NeoMedia’s search technology. Should eBay exercise its option, NeoMedia will receive an additional licence fee from eBay for the initial term. eBay has the option to extend both licences for an additional three years.
Earlier this year, eBay acquired RedLaser, a barcode-scanning, price-comparison app for the iPhone. The technology was incorporated in the latest update of eBay’s own mobile app last month. It can already scan QR Codes, so it will be interesting to see what eBay’s plans are for the NeoMedia’s technology. Whatever they are, it looks like a good day at the office for NeoMedia.
