Since 2009 Meltwater and the PRCA have stood alone challenging the NLA’s licensing scheme both in the Courts and in the Copyright Tribunal. If unchallenged the scheme will increase costs to Meltwater customers and all users of commercial media monitoring services, many of whom are PRCA members.
London, 7 November 2011: Meltwater Group and the PRCA welcome the decision by the UK Supreme Court to grant permission to appeal a recent ruling handed down by the Court of Appeal regarding the NLA’s proposed web end user licensing scheme in the UK.

Who will generate content in the future, how this will change the PR, marketing and publishing industries and how individuals will consume content? — NevilleHobson.com
I was looking again at some of the video recordings of last week’s debate at the British Library in London that I went to, organized by B2B SaaS company Meltwater, and which addressed the topic of " The Future of Content."
The debate and subsequent Q&A session lasted two hours – you can watch the complete-event video as if you were there – and was a worthwhile experience listening to the keynote address from Richard Sambrook, Edelman’s Chief Content Officer (and a former Director of Global News at the BBC) and the panel members’ commentaries ably facilitated by panel chair Matthew Gwyther, the editor of Management Today magazine.
And a stellar panel it was comprising Jorn Lyseggen, founder and CEO of Meltwater (at left in the video still photo); Francis Ingham, CEO, PRCA; David Pugh, Managing Director, NLA (centre in the photo); Helen Dunne, Editor of CorpComms Magazine; and Lionel Bently (right in the photo), a specialist in intellectual property law and Director of the Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Law at the University of Cambridge.
How the debate was described set a pretty high expectation level:
The Future of Content will examine who will generate content in the future, how this will change the PR, marketing and publishing industries, how individuals will consume content and how/whether content could/will be monetized going forward.

89% of Internet users share online content on social networks, 93% use email and 82% use blogs | Meltwater Blog
Conversations around your brand are taking place (probably right now).
A recent study found 89% of Internet users share online content on social networks, 93% use email and 82% use blogs. Additionally, social networks were identified as the top method for sharing content with friends.
Listening to your social customers is important and can be beneficial to your company. Think of them like a free focus group; by monitoring conversations about your brand, you can see how people view your company, services or products.

Dan Purvis Takes Charge of Global PR At Meltwater Group
Purvis joins from UK firm Octopus Communications, where he led Meltwater’s UK PR account. He is charged with driving a global PR strategy that will improve Meltwater’s brand visibility and position the company as a leading software vendor.
Dan Purvis, Meltwater Group
Meltwater Group, the software company that provides a range of monitoring, marketing and social media services, has appointed Dan Purvis to lead global PR.
“We’re right at the heart of some of the biggest and most topical debates going on across businesses of all sizes, in all sectors, in all countries – the future of online content,” Purvis told the Holmes Report. “From online news monitoring to social media monitoring and analysis, businesses are striving to come to terms with how to navigate the online minefield with its plethora of channels open to them. The trick is to then transform this ‘noise’ into a competitive advantage.”

Want to grow your business? / Meltwater Buzz, is specifically designed to provide a platform for advanced social media monitoring and analytics
"Meltwater Group, a global software company, recognises that businesses in all sectors and of all sizes are experiencing a number of social media growing pains and has developed tools for helping companies monitor what is being said about them in social media and then how to engage better with their clients and customers.
One of its services, Meltwater Buzz, is specifically designed to provide a platform for advanced social media monitoring and analytics. “We track content from the whole of the social web – essentially anywhere on the web where people can post comments, reviews, and share opinions and information.
In reality, that’s over 200 million (and counting!) blogs, forums and message boards, micro-blogs (such as Twitter), social networks (such as Facebook), review sites, video sites, and wikis,” says PR director Dan Purvis."
This is just as well, since it is clear that traditional, officially supported networks for smaller businesses appear to have little appeal or effect. Fewer than a quarter (21.7 per cent) of the UK’s business owners surveyed by the information technology company Sage Group for its new business index thought the Government was doing enough to provide sufficient support andadvice for those starting a business, while only 14 per cent viewed business information and advice made available by the Government as something they would particularly rely on. Past experience suggests that recent changes to Business Link – though they might make the service less confusing – are likely to have little effect.Research suggests that companies that have embraced social media are more likely to have seen their turnover and headcount grow than those that haven’t. Consumer-facing businesses, notably retailers and entertainment groups, have been particularly quick to see the benefits of being able to contact their customers more regularly and more intimately than was previously the case.
