Exclusive Viewpoint : Why don’t more SMEs have customer advisory panels? / EasyInsites

Welcome to'Exclusive Viewpoint' from theMarketingblog.

First time round we feature Charles Pearson of EasyInsites

There are several differences in SMEs vs. large companies which begins to explain why so little research is being conducted by SME's:

•Fast moving, creative and entrepreneurial
•Not a lot of time or money
•Have to succeed relatively quickly
•Generally can’t compete with the same approach as larger companies
•Critical importance of current customers
•Limited resources in-house

Rewarding customer loyalty / 9th annual Loyalty World in November in London.

Shoppers that hit 50 purchases get to punch a store employee in the stomach…
Loyalty programmes can vary from the boringly obvious to the downright bizarre…. Let’s take a look at another more interesting one from recent years:
Smints Breath Mints Rewards Customers with Naughty Toys

A company that has nothing to do with the naughty and intimate industry is taking the term “sex sells” quite seriously in their marketing campaign. Smints Breath Mints rewards their loyal customers with naughty toys in their latest promotion.
A barcode found on the back of the mints’ boxes must be scanned in online to redeem pocket vibrators, fluffy handcuffs or striptease sets. Taking the idea that fresh breath goes hand in hand with intimacy…
Do you know any more bizarre schemes?  Please leave your comments below!

Reward programmes are a huge part of increasing customer loyalty.  Discover how British Gas, Eurostar, Melia Hotels and more are using reward schemes at the 9th annual Loyalty World in November in London.

The latest Buzz Report from Meltwater Buzz demonstrates the questions that Bartz's firing raise

Media_httpwwwholmesre_hijmw

The latest Buzz Report from Meltwater Buzz demonstrates the questions that Bartz's firing raise. Yahoo has struggled in the face of compeition from other digital and social media players, and its decision to remove Bartz after just 18 months saw question the company's future direction.

Following her dismissal, Bartz chose to inform Yahoo’s 13,400 employees via email, prompting questions about her professionalism. The online community also debated who would replace Bartz as the next prominent female CEO in Silicon Valley and whether the severance package she is believed to have received should have been enough to encourage her to step down gracefully.

Games for Brands conference, launching in London on October 27th

Games For Brands

Games for Brands Limited announce the speaker line-up for the inaugural Games for Brands conference, launching in London on October 27th

Next month creative agencies, brands and content owners will have the opportunity to discover what opportunities await them in the games space at the biggest games and branding conference ever held in the UK.

Held in London's very own “Silicon Roundabout”, Shoreditch, on 27th October, Games for Brands will explore all the avenues - from in-game advertising and branded virtual goods, through to advergames -  that organisations can explore to enhance customer and audience engagement using games, game mechanics and gamification.

Gamification is projected to be a $1.6 billion market by 2016 according to Business Week. Already, 40% of the online population are regular players of online games, and brands are waking up to the need to target and engage with these players. This conference will provide an opportunity for all interested parties to get together and ensure they get their piece of the action.

The opening keynote at Games for Brands will be from Tom Chatfield, author of the acclaimed bestseller Fun, Inc: Why games are the 21st Century's most serious business, who will explore games as a cultural and media phenomenon and explain why it is that games became so massively significant in today’s media landscape.

Other presenters include:

Jeremy Waite, Head of Social Media, Phones4U
Joshua Saunders, Head of Technical and Creative, EMI
Ville Heijari, VP Franchise Development, Rovio
Nick Larder, Digital Director, Starcom MediaVest Group
Dr Jo Twist, Commissioning Editor, Education, Channel 4
Rupert Harris, Innovation executive – Digital Media Initiative, BBC
Mark Sage, Director of Loyalty, Carlson Marketing EMEA
Kam Star, Chief Play Office, PlayGen
Nicholas Lovell, Founder, Gamesbrief
Volker Hirsch, Director, Business Development, Research in Motion
Gemma Bardsley, Science Museum
Richard Bartle, legend of the games industry
Matt Nash, Founder and CEO, Superbright

As Jeremy Waite of Phones4U puts it, Since Phones 4u has developed a social gaming strategy, we have grown from 900 fans to almost 300,000 fans in just over a year. Whilst almost 50% of people log on to Facebook everyday to waste time and play a game, we find that it is the most effective channel for engaging with our customers and reaching new ones. We’re excited about being part of the Games for Brands Conference and if you are lucky enough to be there, you’ll find out exactly how we achieved this success (and how one of our games almost crashed Facebook!)”

Dedicated panels on the day will explore:
- ingame advertising and working with existing games publishers
- building your own branded game/advergame
- learning from the success of leading games companies

“In your Face-Book!” Says ASP Systems

Integrated marketing technology enables Facebook reservations
All embracing ASP Systems are taking giant leaps and bounds setting the next technological advances within their EPoS solution.
In addition to their fully customisable CRM and Stock control function, ASP are taking restaurants and bars to new heights with their integrated marketing technology through Facebook reservations and SMS Marketing.
Restaurants and bars such as Lion’s Sports Bar and Grill, Kensington, The Harlequin Restaurant, Covent Garden and The Gallery at The Westbury, Mayfair have seen a dramatic increased foot fall due to the innovative forward thinking of ASP Systems.

“The whole idea is inspiring. Since the inception of using the reservation application it has become noticeable that the popularity of the The Gallery has grown with every reservation booked. With every new reservation we are seeing new faces and establishing great new relationships through our customer’s social network. We simply cannot believe how much we got for our money.”
